Mrs. Shukie has been the media specialist here at HMMS since we opened the doors in September of 2000.She has been a middle school media specialist in the Greater Hartford area for over 25 years. 

Mr. Steven Bowen

Mr. Bowen joined our staff in 2005. He has worked in both school and public libraries in the greater Hartford area.

The library media center is located on the second floor of the Commons Building of the Learning Corridor Campus.  Our address is 53 Vernon Street, Hartford, Connecticut 06106.

The library is open daily from 8:10 am to 2:40 pm.  Students need a pass from a teacher to come to the library, unless they are coming with a class. Occasionally students may come to the Media Center before or after school by special arrangement, talk to the Media Center Specialists.

The library media center has an up-to-date (and growing!) collection of books.  The books are chosen to support our challenging curriculum, as well as support the love of reading that our students display every day.  Presently, our collection has close to 9000 books. We also subscribe to 26 magazines, and two daily newspapers.           

A collection of over 750 videos, DVD’s CD’s, and audio books are housed in a climate controlled room in the library. Again, these items have been purchased to align with our school’s curriculum. 

The library also houses 20 networked computers, with full internet access.  We subscribe to five online subscription databases to aid students and staff in research via the world wide web.
